Sound association is one of important aspects in my music. In Limbo reflects on the idea through two opposing sources and
viewpoints. From the perspective of structure, the first part explores the sonic perception–the fluxion of air sound and natural sound. The second part explores the sound association and cultural appropriation of traditional music such as Nogaku (the classical Japanese dance theatre) and Gagaku (ancient imperial court music and dances). The noise and pitch materials derived from the same instrument/voice reflect different worlds at different degrees. In this case, the contradictory unity of formal structure presents the physical and psychological aspects of listening experience.
*In Limbo was awarded First Prize (category [B]-Mixed Media) in MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING 2017.
This is an anonymous competition, and the jury consisted of international composers (Annette Vande Gorne, Chenyu Huang, Christopher Jette, David Coll, Jeff Kaiser, Jeffery Stolet, Marie-Jeanne Wyckmans, Neil Rolnick, and Xiaofu Zhang).
